15th African Real Estate Society (AfRES) Annual Conference

AFRICAN REAL ESTATE CONFERENCE, 2015 IN KUMASI, GHANA

BACKGROUND

The African Real Estate Society (AfRES) is the umbrella body for all real estate practitioners in Africa. The Society organises annual conferences on thematic areas in selected cities. This year, AfRES in collaboration with the Ghana Institution of Surveyors (GhIS) and the Kwame Nkrumah University of Science and Technology (KNUST) are holding the 2015 conference in Kumasi, Ghana.

The theme for the conference is “Real Estate Markets Development; Meeting the Challenge, Making the Difference”.  Clearly Real estate markets in most countries are not as organized or efficient as markets for other, more liquid investment instruments. The unique nature of Individual properties involved coupled with their legal attributes make Real Estate Markets imperfect hence dealings therein somewhat complex. These present major challenges to investors and other players.

Undoubtedly the real estate industry plays a major factor in the development mix in many economies. In view of the many opportunities that exist, conscious efforts ought to be made to develop the Real Estate Markets especially in emerging democracies.

The Annual Conferences serve as CPD programmes for participants. They also provide common platforms for sharing international experiences on best practices and in this case, issues such as appropriately dealing with the challenges in the real estate markets development would be the focus.

For nearly two decades, these conferences had attracted representatives from around the world to discuss and present innovative solutions to real estate challenges especially with relevance to Africa.
