Call for Applications for Appointment as IT Officer – Centre for Applied Research Innovation in Supply Chain-Africa (CARISCA), KNUST

The Centre for Applied Research Innovation in Supply Chain-Africa (CARISCA) is an interdisciplinary Centre of Excellence established at the University to conduct applied research, educational programs, and professional development and training courses in Health and Agricultural Supply Chains. CARISCA is the premier BRIDGE-TRAIN Programme of the United States Agency for International Development (USAID) in sub-Saharan Africa dealing with supply chain innovation activities in the health and agriculture sectors. The Centre has a vacancy for an IT OFFICER to be based in its secretariat at the KNUST School of Business, KNUST.

Applications are invited from suitably qualified persons for appointment as an ICT Officer at 50% FTE within the Centre. This position is contingent on availability of grant funding. The present grant end date is June 3, 2025. The goal of this office is to provide IT support services to the Centre for the smooth running of all project activities of the Centre.

Qualification and Experience

Minimum Qualifications

  • Bachelor's degree in Information Technology (IT), Computer Science, Information Systems, a related field, or equivalent experience
  • 2 years of experience working in IT operations

Desired Experience/Knowledge/Skills Requirements:

  • Experience leading and/or managing large IT projects and rolling out IT infrastructure for varied technologies
  • Excellent working knowledge of computer systems, security, network and systems administration, hardware installations and repairs, databases and data storage systems, and video conferencing systems
  • Strong critical thinking and decision-making skills
  • Firm grasp on IT infrastructure and operations best practices

Duties and Responsibilities

  • Implement CARISCA Information Technology (IT) projects, including the design and deployment of all IT systems and services
  • Monitor performance of IT systems to determine cost and productivity levels, and to make recommendations for improving the IT infrastructure
  • Work with CARISCA personnel to develop and maintain high quality ICT networks which are regularly reviewed to ensure that CARISCA’s ICT needs are met.
  • Manage all aspects of hardware and software including installation, operation, upgrades, repair, and replacement.
  • Troubleshoot hardware and software issues at the CARISCA Centre
  • Securely maintain the project’s information database systems including archiving of files and historical data.
  • Provide technical advice, training, and assistance for ICT related matters CARISCA staff and students.
