Vacancy for the Position of Laboratory Technician – Regional Transport Research And Education Centre Kumasi (TRECK)

ABOUT TRECK

The Regional Transport Research and Education Centre Kumasi (TRECK) is an Africa Centre of Excellence hosted by the College of Engineering, Kwame Nkrumah University of Science and Technology, (KNUST), Kumasi, Ghana. TRECK works in close collaboration with national, regional, and international academic institutions, as well as key stakeholders in the transport sector, to address transportation challenges across the sub-region. TRECK has a state-of-the-art laboratory that serves as a hub for academic research and industry-relevant testing in asphalt materials and transportation engineering. As part of our mission to advance innovation and build capacity in the transport sector, TRECK is seeking a qualified and motivated individual to fill the position of LABORATORY TECHNICIAN.

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES

  1. Prepare asphalt binder and mixture specimens, and perform standardized laboratory tests in accordance with ASTM, AASHTO, and other industry standards
  2. Support data collection from construction projects and research test sections
  3. Assist in transportation engineering data collection and analysis
  4. Provide hands-on laboratory practical sessions for students and short-course participants
  5. Maintain laboratory equipment and assist in the preparation of technical reports
  6. Report directly to the Laboratory Manager or any other assigned authority

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS

  1. A Bachelor’s degree in Civil Engineering from a recognized university. Applicants with a Higher National Diploma in Civil Engineering and substantial relevant experience may also be considered
  2. Strong understanding of asphalt materials, mix design principles, and testing procedures
  3. Five years of hands-on experience in asphalt laboratory practice
  4. Proficiency in basic computer applications and strong report writing skills
  5. Detail-oriented, safety-conscious, and ability to work independently and collaboratively
  6. Effective communication skills and willingness to support student learning and professional training programmes
  7. Membership in the Ghana Institution of Engineering or another recognized professional engineering body
