Call for Applications for Postdoctoral Position

Political Parties in Africa and Democracy

Applications are invited from highly motivated and qualified individuals for a Postdoc position available at the Department of History, Political Science and Public Administration, Kwame Nkrumah University of Science and Technology, Kumasi, Ghana.

Background

The Department of History, Political Science and Public Administration invites applications from emerging scholars for a Postdoctoral Research Associate to support and contribute to the European Research Council (ERC) project Political Parties in Africa and Democracy (PPADEM). PPADEM is an international research collaboration between the Kwame Nkrumah University of Science and Technology, the University of Strathclyde, the University of Bristol, and the University of Reading.

The project is designed to discover the key drivers of democratic decline and democratic progress in Africa, by undertaking the largest empirical study of political parties ever carried out anywhere in the world. We ask: (1) What role do political parties play in the process of democratisation in Africa? (2) Under what conditions do they make positive or negative contributions toward defending and expanding democracy? And (3) How can political parties across Africa be supported to help counter the decline of democracy on the continent?

Applications are invited for the following under-listed position. The position is available from 1 July/August 2026 or as soon as possible thereafter.
