The Kwame Nkrumah University of Science and Technology (KNUST), Kumasi, proudly announces its accreditation by the Quality Assurance Agency for Higher Education (QAA) for the successful completion of the International Quality Review and meeting the standards and guidelines for Quality Assurance in the European Higher Education Area. The accreditation marks a significant milestone in the University’s commitment to excellence in education. This prestigious recognition is a testament to KNUST's dedication to maintaining high standards in academic quality, institutional integrity, and student success.
The accreditation is based on the following areas of good practice: the review of student profiles at both department and faculty levels, and are subject to audit - to ensure that students with failing profiles are identified and supported appropriately by referring such students to the counselling services; the delivery of a comprehensive entry orientation programmes for all students; comprehensive support systems for academic progression of faculty and equipping of the Directorate of Student Affairs with a holistic student services covering a comprehensive range of student support services.
This achievement reinforces KNUST’s status as a recognised educational institution globally. The QAA accreditation reaffirms the University’s role in delivering world-class education, preparing students to tackle global challenges, and fostering an academic environment that promotes innovation and research.
In her remarks, the Vice-Chancellor of the University, Professor (Mrs.) Rita Akosua Dickson, emphasised the significance of the accreditation: “Subjecting KNUST to Institutional Quality Review (IQR) by QAA for accreditation underscores our unwavering commitment to academic excellence, innovation, and the highest standards for quality in Higher Education.”
According to the Vice-Chancellor, the accreditation reinforces KNUST’s standing on the global stage and affirms the University’s pledge to provide an exceptional educational environment for all. “We are dedicated to advancing knowledge in science and technology, conducting relevant research, delivering quality teaching, entrepreneurship training, and engaging with our communities to improve the quality of life,” she added.
The QAA, based in UK is an internationally recognised quality assurance body that evaluates educational institutions worldwide to ensure that they meet the standards and guidelines in academic delivery, governance, and student support. It provides a platform for higher educational institutions to fully demonstrate that they meets internationally recognised standards for quality assurance in higher education, providing trust and confidence for students and international partners.
This accreditation highlights KNUST's ongoing pursuit of excellence and its mission to remain at the forefront of higher education in Africa and beyond. The accreditation is for a period of five (5) years, and it is valid from November 2024 to October 2029.
