As part of its series of training sessions to equip staff with digital know-how, the Kwame Nkrumah University of Science and Technology (KNUST) E-Learning Centre has organised a three-day Digital Literacy Training for new faculty members.
The training was aimed at onboarding newly appointed lecturers into the KNUST digital academic space with respect to the KNUST Learning Management System (myclass.knust.edu.gh) and the KNUST E-mail service.
The first two days of the program, which was held on the 12th and 13th January, 2022 at the Institute of Distance Learning (IDL) ICT Laboratory, was facilitated by Dr. Jones Opoku Ware, a Lecturer at the Department of Sociology and Social Work; Dr. Samuel Antwi and Dr. Ralitsa Debrah, lecturers at the Department of Teacher Education and members of the Instructional Design Unit of the Centre and Mr. Foster Sedem Dedume, staff at the University Information Technology Services and a member of the Systems Support Unit of the Centre.
Professor Eric Appau Asante, the Director of the KNUST E-Learning Centre, in welcoming participants of the training workshop mentioned that the Centre is positioning itself to ensure that there is continuous usage of digital educational resources and methods in the University. He hinted that the Centre would replicate these training sessions in every academic year for all staff and students to ensure that KNUST becomes a Centre of excellence in e-learning.
The participants were also taken through some methods and practises to keep their internet resources and computers safe.
Day Three of the program, which took place at the Leta Computer Lab of the Faculty of Pharmaceutical Sciences on the 14th January, 2022, saw the presence of the Pro-Vice Chancellor, Professor Ellis Owusu Dabo.
Prof. Dabo lauded the efforts of the KNUST E-Learning Centre and tasked them to do more to ensure that staff and students are in tune with the e-learning drive which has become the trend in higher education. He also admonished participants to make all efforts to improve their digital skills and continue upgrading themselves.
The participants expressed their appreciation to the organisers for putting together such an important training program, which they believe would help to improve online teaching and learning in KNUST.
