The International Programmes Office (IPO), in collaboration with Women in STEM Ghana at the Kwame Nkrumah University of Science and Technology (KNUST), has organised a capacity-building workshop for newly recruited senior members.
The workshop, themed “Strategic Career Mastery: Navigating the New World of Work,” aimed to equip participants with essential skills and strategies for professional growth in today’s evolving workplace.

Professor Daniel Duah, Dean of the IPO, emphasized the importance of continuous training and professional development. “One thing we ought to sell as a university is the quality of our staff, and every year we organize training for our staff. It is an important opportunity to grasp the system and understand how things work in this university,” he said.

Professor Ibok Oduro, President of WiSTEM Ghana, encouraged participants to embrace change and incorporate strategic thinking into their career development. “Times are changing, you cannot stay the same. Skills acquired from the training will not only prepare you for your role at KNUST but will also open doors beyond the university,” she noted.
Mrs. Millicent Clarke, Retired Regional Head of HR, Standard Chartered Bank Africa and Middle East, delivered a presentation on career management, emphasizing strategic planning and continuous learning. She encouraged participants to view the university as an industry and highlighted the need for professionals to pause, reflect, and be intentional about their career management.
Mrs. Clarke stressed the significance of workplace networking, describing it as critical for career advancement, and urged participants to seek opportunities to connect with others. On personal branding, she emphasized crafting a unique professional identity that reflects one's strengths, values, and expertise.
She also advised participants to build a strong support system by surrounding themselves with mentors, peers, and industry experts who can provide guidance and valuable insights for their careers.
