Call for Applications for O.R. Tambo Research Scholarships into Master’s Degree Programmes

The O.R. Tambo Research Chair for Technology Entrepreneurship, with funding from the National Research Foundation of South Africa, invites eligible candidates in Ghana and other African countries to apply for scholarship awards to study Master’s Degree programmes (i.e., MSc/MBA/MPhil) at Kwame Nkrumah University of Science and Technology (KNUST) School of Business.

Category of Scholarship Awards Available

The Scholarships to be awarded by the Chair are categorised into full, partial and fee waiver scholarship awards. The category of scholarship awards to be given to an applicant will be dependent upon the economic needs of an applicant as determined by the scholarship award committee.

Full scholarship awards will cover:

  • Tuition fees and other charges
  • Monthly stipend
  • Hostel accommodation
  • Research grants (e.g., fieldwork, data analysis, etc.)
  • One round-trip flight ticket (international (African) students only)
  • International travel insurance cover (international (African) students only)

Partial scholarship awards will cover:

  • Tuition fees and other charges
  • Hostel accommodation
  • Research grants (e.g., fieldwork, data analysis, etc.)
  • One round-trip flight ticket (international (African) students only)
  • International travel insurance cover (international (African) students only)

Tuition waiver scholarship award will cover:

  • Tuition fees and other charges
  • Research grants (e.g., fieldwork, data analysis, etc.)

Requirements for award of scholarships:

In conformity with the entry requirement at Kwame Nkrumah University of Science and Technology, successful candidates must be in possession of the following qualifications:

  • Bachelor’s degree with first-class or second class (upper division) honours in Business Administration, Economics, and Social Sciences.
  • For applicants whose bachelor’s degree was not provided in English, an internationally recognised Certificate of Proficiency in the English Language (i.e., TOEFL or IELTS) with an above-average score shall be required.

Additional requirements: All successful applicants shall be required to:

  • Demonstrate economic need for which reason they should be supported financially to enrol on the Master’s degree programme at KNUST.
  • Hold citizenship of Ghana or another African country. Non-Ghanaian African applicants must demonstrate possession of a student visa to legally study at KNUST.
  • Complete and submit the Scholarship Application form.
  • Complete and submit the economic needs assessment form.
  • Commit to full-time availability for the entire period of study.

Application Supporting Documents/Additional Information:

  1. Completed scholarship application form
  2. Completed economic needs assessment form
  3. Curriculum vitae (two pages maximum)
  4. Two reference letters
  5. Proof of English proficiency (only for applicants whose Bachelor degree was not offered in English)
  6. Official transcripts for bachelor degree
  7. Certified copies of official bachelor degree certificate
  8. Soft and hard copies of a letter of motivation (max. one page) with the heading “O.R. Tambo Scholarship Award” outlining the following:
  • Why you want to research into entrepreneurship and employment problems
  • Why you think you are capable of researching entrepreneurship and employment problems
  • Why you need financial support to be able to successfully complete the Master’s degree programme
  • How your admission into this programme will fit into your professional vision
  • How your community stands to benefit after your training on this programme
  • You may also add other relevant information and/or experience you feel are necessary to support your application

Note

  • Application deadline is 5.00 pm Wednesday November 30, 2022.
  • Kindly upload your supporting documents in a single zip file. Supporting documents in French must have an official English translation in addition
  • Ineligible, incomplete or late applications will not be processed.
  • Only shortlisted applicants will be invited to an interview session on a date and venue to be announced.
