The programme will provide excellent hands-on training opportunity for First Degree holders to acquire experience of spatial problem solving by building-up their capacity in theoretical knowledge-base and practical skills in Geographic Information Systems as a tool for supplying information that significantly aids in effective planning, management and decision making.
Admission Requirements

An applicant must have a minimum of Second Class (Lower) Division Bachelor degree or its equivalent from a recognized university in any of the following areas:

Engineering, Surveying, Architecture, Building Technology, Planning, Land Economy, Real Estate, Agriculture, Landscape Design & Management, Natural Resource Management, Forest Resource Technology, Computer Science, Environmental Science, Meteorology & Climate Science, Geography & Rural Development

Applicants with Pass in any of the Bachelor degrees listed under (a) above must have, in addition, a minimum of 2 years post-graduate industrial working experience.
All applicants will be required to attend a selection interview to determine their suitability and preparedness or otherwise for the programme.

Programme Structure

The MPhil GIS programme shall be of two (2) years duration. The first year will be two (2) semesters of taught courses and the second year will be for supervised research and thesis report preparation. Classes will mainly be held on weekends.
Mode of Application

Sale of E-Vouchers/Forms for admission shall commence on 1st February, 2017.

  • First of all, candidates must purchase an eVoucher by paying an application fee of Two Hundred and Twenty Ghana Cedis (GH¢220.00) at the following banks: GCB, Ecobank or UniBank.

  • Upon payment of the application fee, candidates will receive an eVoucher containing an application number and PIN that will grant access to the online admissions portal.

  • Candidates should then proceed to online admissions website: (here) and begin the application process.

  • Once the process has been completed, candidates must print out 3 copies of the completed application form from the portal and submit them (by post) to the School of Graduate Studies along with all relevant documents (Photocopies of Certificates, Recommendation Letters, and [Transcript for those attending KNUST for the first time]) to the following address:

Deadline for the submission of application forms is 25th April, 2017.  

Application forms submitted after the deadline will not be processed.
Only candidates who successfully gain admission will be notified subsequently.
NB: All International Applicants must apply online. International applicants who are admitted will be required to pay an application fee of USD 200.00 before registration.
