For many young people, the journey to university is filled with dreams and expectations. For one Kwame Nkrumah University of Science and Technology, Kumasi (KNUST) student, however, it became the turning point in a deeply personal struggle with depression and anxiety.
Umar Boateng has publicly shared his experience of living with psychological trauma that left him detached from nearly every aspect of his life.
"The psychological trauma of depression and anxiety. I lost interest in everything including my family and my career," he wrote in a social media post.
According to him, he endured the laden of his mental health challenges in silence. That changed after he gained admission to KNUST and sought support from the University's Counselling Centre.
"I never spoke with anyone what was wrong with me until I got admission to KNUST and the Counselling Center came to my aid," he recounted.
With professional guidance, Umar says he has regained a sense of purpose and well-being.
"I have found myself again and thank God for my life!" he added.
KNUST's Counselling Centre continues to provide confidential psychological, emotional and personal development services to students, helping them navigate academic pressures, personal challenges and mental health concerns.
