The Department of Communication Design at the Kwame Nkrumah University of Science and Technology, Kumasi (KNUST) has assured the Vice-Chancellor, Professor Christian Agyare, of its support as the University pursues reforms aimed at improving efficiency, innovation and institutional development.

Head of the Department of Communication Design, Professor Anthony Kofi Badu, said the department remained committed to supporting the University and ensuring that its graduates and activities continued to uphold the institution’s reputation among stakeholders.
“We are here to formally welcome you, at the same time congratulate you, and give you a firm assurance that ComDesign is solidly behind you and will ensure that your tenure will see progress,” he said.
He noted that Communication Design remained one of the highly sought-after programme at the University, adding that the department had maintained strong relationships with external stakeholders and produced graduates occupying responsible positions in various sectors.
Prof. Badu, however, identified inadequate equipment and limited funding as some challenges affecting the department’s studios and production activities, expressed hope that further engagement with the University management would help address these challenges and create an enabling environment for effective teaching, learning and production.

Vice-Chancellor of KNUST, Professor Christian Agyare, thanked staff for their support and called for continued collaboration as the University works towards its strategic goal of moving from excellence to eminence.
“We can’t be doing the same and expect different results. I can assure you that there will be reforms,” he said.
He disclosed that the University would prioritize the re-equipping and retooling of laboratories, studios and other facilities, particularly within the first one to two years of his administration.
He also encouraged departments with production capabilities to explore opportunities beyond the University to generate internally generated funds (IGF), noting that such initiatives could provide additional resources for departments and faculties.
“Let’s be business-like. Look at the opportunities available, including through TEK TV, and see how we can make the most of them,” he said.
Professor Agyare reaffirmed his commitment to supporting the department and urged staff to embrace the reforms and contribute ideas that would help strengthen the University’s financial sustainability and operational efficiency.
