The KNUST Career Services Centre has organised a career development workshop to equip students with practical CV writing and interview skills as part of efforts to enhance graduate employability and prepare students for the competitive job market.
The workshop provided participants with guidance on crafting effective job applications, preparing for interviews and aligning their skills with industry expectations.
Speaking at the event, Senior Administrative Assistant at the KNUST Career Services Centre, Mr. Lord Asiedu, said the Centre's core mandate is to bridge the gap between academic training and workplace requirements.
He highlighted a range of services offered by the Centre, including career coaching, CV writing workshops, interview preparation sessions and professional ethics training.
Mr. Asiedu advised students to tailor their CVs to specific job opportunities rather than relying on a single document for all applications."It is advisable to customize your CV for every role you apply for because employers are looking for candidates whose skills and experiences match their specific requirements," he said.
He also explained the distinction between a curriculum vitae (CV) and a résumé, noting that while the two terms are often used interchangeably, a CV provides a more detailed account of an individual's academic and professional background, whereas a résumé is typically concise and tailored to a particular role.
Head of Recruitment and Career Development Officer, Ms. Emmanuella Alorsor, led a practical session on interview preparation and performance.
She described interviews as structured conversations designed to help employers assess candidates and identify the most suitable applicants for available positions. She introduced participants to various interview formats, including one-on-one, panel, stress and off-site interviews.
Ms. Alorsor encouraged students to study job descriptions carefully, research prospective employers and prepare responses to commonly asked interview questions before attending interviews."Many people know they will likely be asked to introduce themselves, yet they still arrive unprepared. The way you answer simple questions such as 'Tell me about yourself' can determine whether you move forward in the recruitment process," she said.
She further urged students to make use of online resources and artificial intelligence tools to practise interview questions and build confidence ahead of job interviews
