Jeanette Naa Shormeh Nortey has assumed office as Head Prefect of the KNUST Junior High School for the 2026/2027 academic year, following a swearing-in ceremony that marked a new phase in student leadership at the school.
The annual prefectship handing-over ceremony saw Jeanette and her team of newly elected prefects take the oath of office, in an event that underscored continuity, service and responsibility within the student body.
The election, held weeks earlier on the school premises, enabled students to vote for leaders they trusted to represent them throughout the academic year.
Mrs Theresa Anyimadu, Deputy Head, described the occasion as a milestone in the school’s 25-year legacy of leadership and service. “Today is not just a handing-over ceremony; it is a celebration of the leadership journey that has shaped our school for a quarter of a century,” she said.
She noted that the Head Prefect role has strengthened student governance over the years. “Our leadership structure has grown, and the Head Prefect position has brought out exceptional leaders, especially among our girls, who continue to show remarkable confidence and discipline,” she added.

Mrs Anyimadu also commended the outgoing prefects for their dedication and service. “We thank you for your service,” she said.
Addressing the newly elected leaders, she emphasised the values expected of them. “Leadership is not about power; it is about responsibility. Serve with integrity, humility, and respect,” she said, urging them to embody the school’s “three Ds”: determination, desire and discipline.
Deputy Head of KNUST Basic School, Mrs Nana Oye Woodiez, congratulated the new prefects and encouraged them to lead by example. “Leadership is not about titles. It is about service, humility, fairness, and integrity. Let your actions show the kind of leaders you truly are,” she said.
She expressed confidence in the new leadership, noting that many of the elected prefects had previously served in leadership roles at the primary level. “It means they have distinguished themselves as leaders,” she said.
Mrs Woodiez also called for more balanced participation in future student leadership, encouraging more boys to step forward and take up leadership roles.
