Management of the Kwame Nkrumah University of Science and Technology (KNUST) has concluded a three-day visit to retired professional and administrative staff, reaffirming its commitment to their welfare and recognising their invaluable contributions to the development of the University.
To wrap up the visits, the Vice-Chancellor, Professor (Mrs.) Rita Akosua Dickson, and her delegation-including the Registrar, Mr. Benjamin Boampong Owusu; Protestant Chaplain, Rev. Dr. Joseph Acheampong; Assistant Registrar Mr. Gibridu Oppong; Junior Assistant Registrar Ms. Vida Osei Mensah; Principal Administrative Assistant Mrs. Millicent Newton and Senior Administrative Assistant Ms. Abigail Ofori-paid courtesy calls on Mr. Joseph Boakye and Mrs. Ugett Addae, both of whom expressed excitement upon receiving notification of the visit from the Registrar’s Office.
Mrs. Addae, who retired about 16 years ago, described the visit as a pleasant surprise.
“This is a great surprise, thank you,” she said, adding that she is currently serving as a hospital administrator to remain active after retirement.

Mr. Boakye expressed appreciation to University Management for the thoughtful gesture and for measures introduced at the University Hospital to safeguard the well-being of pensioners. Recounting a recent visit to the facility, he commended the Director of University Health Services, as well as doctors and nurses, for their professionalism and prompt care.
“On behalf of all pensioners, we say thank you for the immediate care and attention we receive anytime we visit the hospital,” he said.

He also expressed pride in the University’s transformation since his retirement nearly 20 years ago.
“When you see the development that has taken place since we left, you can boldly say you once worked here,” he remarked.
Mr. Boakye further urged Management to ensure timely promotions for deserving staff and to recognise excellence even where formal advancement may not immediately be possible.
“Good work must be recognised,” he stressed.

The Vice-Chancellor announced the introduction of a home-visit medical service by the University Health Services, enabling health professionals to conduct routine check-ups for retired staff in their homes.
“This is our way of promoting preventive healthcare and ensuring the welfare of our staff and retirees,” she said.
Management assured the retirees that their counsel on leadership, recognition and institutional growth would be carefully considered as the University continues to advance.
