A third-year Social Work student, Azoumaro Vanessa Salese, has officially been recognised by Guinness World Records as the new holder of the Longest Video Game Marathon record.
Vanessa’s record-breaking journey began in July 2024 when she announced her goal of playing video games continuously for 48 hours. The attempt took place from Friday, 26th July 2024, at the Republic Hall Common Area, where fellow students, friends, and gaming enthusiasts gathered to support her.
During the marathon, she played the Ghost of Tsushima series, surpassing the previous record of 48 hours set in 2015 by Carrie Swidecki from the United States, who played Just Dance 2015.
After a detailed review process, Guinness World Records confirmed Vanessa’s feat, officially naming her the first Ghanaian and African woman to hold the title in the gaming category.
Speaking after the confirmation, Vanessa shared her reflections on the journey:
“This was more than just a game. It was a test of resilience, focus, and belief. I wanted to prove that young Africans, especially women, can break boundaries and make history in any field. I’m deeply thankful to KNUST, my friends, and every Ghanaian who supported me through this journey.”
