An Associate Professor of Architecture at the Kwame Nkrumah University of Science and Technology (KNUST), Prof. Daniel Duah, has completed a one-month visiting professorship in Inclusive Design at the University of Brescia, Italy. Prof. Duah’s research focuses on sustainable and inclusive built environments.
Hosted by Professor Alberto Arenghi, Prof. Duah delivered a series of lectures on Inclusive Architecture – Barrier-Free Design in the African Context.
His lectures explored topics including an introduction to disability and inclusive architecture, barrier-free design guidelines, inclusive healthcare design in Ghana, dementia-friendly design principles, and material choices that promote accessibility in Ghanaian universities.
The work and initiatives led by Prof. Duah and KNUST in inclusive design were well received, prompting discussions on the possibility of establishing double-degree graduate programmes between KNUST and the University of Brescia.
As Dean of the International Programmes Office, Prof. Duah also held discussions with the Rector of the University of Brescia, Prof. Francesco Castelli.
Their meeting focused on strengthening collaboration, developing joint graduate degrees in Civil and Environmental Engineering, expanding partnerships with KNUST’s College of Health Sciences, and advancing the UniAfrica project, which seeks to deepen engagement between Italian and African universities.
