A new ranking of Artificial Intelligence and Machine Learning researchers in Ghana, based on Google Scholar citations, has placed four lecturers from the Kwame Nkrumah University of Science and Technology among the top names in the country.
The ranking places Dr. Henry Nunoo-Mensah at the top nationwide, with Dr. Francisca Adoma Acheampong also among the top three. Prof. Frimpong Twum and Dr. Caspar Daniel Adenutsi also secured spots among the country’s most cited researchers.
This recognition reflects KNUST’s strong leadership in AI/ML research, with expertise spanning computer engineering, telecommunications, petroleum engineering, and computer science.

Dr. Henry Nunoo-Mensah is a Senior Lecturer in the Department of Computer Engineering. His research areas include wireless sensor networks, intelligent agents, blockchain, and the Internet of Things.
He has published widely, offered consultancy services, and supervises both undergraduate and postgraduate students.
Dr. Francisca Adoma Acheampong is a Lecturer in the Department of Telecommunication Engineering and a Certified Professional Engineer.
Her research focuses on natural language processing for underserved languages and machine learning for network optimisation.
She has received recognition for her work, including awards from NUGS China and the Wiley Journal Engineering Reports. She continues to collaborate with teams that use AI to address social and inclusion challenges.
Dr. Caspar Daniel Adenutsi is a petroleum reservoir engineer and a faculty member at the Department of Petroleum Engineering.
His research covers porous media fluid flow, nano-enhanced oil recovery, low-permeability reservoir characterisation, and the use of AI in petroleum engineering.
Prof. Frimpong Twum is an Associate Professor of Computer Science at KNUST. His research areas include computer networks, data security, cloud computing, computer vision, and machine learning.
Prof. Twum has published widely in journals such as PLOS ONE, IEEE Access, MDPI Sensors, and Springer.
The achievement highlights not only the University’s research excellence but also its growing role in advancing Ghana’s digitalisation and innovation agenda.
