Ebenezer Effah, a fifth-year Doctor of Veterinary Medicine student at the Kwame Nkrumah University of Science and Technology (KNUST), Kumasi has been elected Chair of the Wild and Exotic Animals Network (WEAN) of the International Veterinary Students’ Association (IVSA).
His election took place at the 74th IVSA Congress and General Assembly held in Taipei, Taiwan, from August 4 to 14, 2025. The event brought together veterinary student delegates from across the world and was graced by the President of the World Veterinary Association, Dr John de Jong.
Effah’s victory, achieved against several opponents, reflects his longstanding commitment to wildlife and conservation medicine. Earlier this year, he was awarded the IVSA DAD Travel Grant to attend the 73rd IVSA Symposium in Morocco, where he presented and facilitated workshops on wildlife medicine.
The IVSA Wild and Exotic Animals Network connects veterinary students worldwide who are interested in exotic and wild animal medicine and conservation. It also promotes education programmes for students and professionals working in wildlife management and health.
