Dr. Ibrahim Murtala Muhammed was an alumnus of the Kwame Nkrumah University of Science and Technology (KNUST), Kumasi where he earned a Master of Science in Development Planning in 2008. His academic journey also included studies at the University of Ghana and Mountcrest University, culminating in a PhD in 2020. His time at KNUST shaped his commitment to sustainable development and evidence-based policymaking, values he carried into public service.

Murtala Muhammed’s political journey was marked by resilience and impact:
- Member of Parliament for Nanton (2013–2017) and Tamale Central (2021–2025), where he championed youth empowerment and infrastructural development.
- Deputy Minister for Information and Media Relations (2013–2014), known for his articulate advocacy and transparency.
- Deputy Minister for Trade and Industry (2014–2017), where he promoted local enterprise and industrial growth.
- Minister for Environment, Science, Technology and Innovation (2025), a role he held until his untimely death, focusing on climate resilience and green innovation.
He also served on key parliamentary committees, including Public Accounts and Trade, Industry and Tourism, where his voice was both principled and pragmatic.
