The College of Health Sciences at the Kwame Nkrumah University of Science and Technology has paid a courtesy call on the newly appointed Chief Executive Officer of the Komfo Anokye Teaching Hospital, Dr. Paa Kwesi Baidoo.

Dr. Baidoo, a proud alumnus of KNUST and a part-time lecturer at the University’s Department of Surgery, welcomed the delegation led by the Provost of the College of Health Sciences, Professor Christian Agyare.

The visit served as an opportunity to congratulate Dr. Baidoo on his appointment and to reaffirm the long-standing partnership between KNUST and KATH: two institutions that have worked hand-in-hand in training Ghana’s medical professionals.
During discussions, the delegation highlighted the critical role this collaboration has played over the years, noting its centrality in producing skilled healthcare personnel. With healthcare demands evolving rapidly across the Ashanti Region and beyond, both institutions acknowledged the urgent need to deepen their cooperation.
A focal point of the meeting was the 50th Anniversary Legacy Project of KNUST’s School of Medical Sciences. The project, which seeks to construct a state-of-the-art office and lecture hall complex at KATH, is seen as a timely intervention to address infrastructure challenges brought on by a growing student population.
Professor Agyare appealed to Dr. Baidoo and the hospital’s management for their full support in realising the project, stressing that it would significantly enhance teaching and learning at the hospital.
The Provost reaffirmed KNUST’s strong commitment to excellence in medical education, research, and service delivery. He emphasized the importance of enhancing specialised healthcare delivery and the indispensable role of both institutions in building Ghana’s health workforce.
In response, Dr. Baidoo expressed deep appreciation for the visit and the goodwill messages from his alma mater. He acknowledged the immense contribution of KNUST to Ghana’s healthcare sector, particularly through faculty who also serve as clinicians and researchers at KATH.
Dr. Baidoo pledged to strengthen the collaboration between the two institutions, adding:
“Our collective effort will lead to improved healthcare delivery and a stronger academic-health service partnership.”
