As part of activities commemorating 40 years of publishing education in Ghana, the Department of Publishing Studies at the College of Art and Built Environment (CABE) hosted an Awards and Fundraising Dinner at the Great Hall.
The anniversary, themed “40 Years of Publishing Education in Ghana: Reflections and the Way Forward,” brought together alumni, students, faculty, and industry stakeholders for an evening of celebration, reflection, and a renewed commitment to the department's future.

Dr. (Mrs.) Lucy Ry-Kottoh, Head of the Department, highlighted the array of activities organized throughout the year to mark this milestone.
These initiatives aimed to showcase the department's impact over the years and pave the way for its future development.
The activities included outreach programs to senior high schools across the country to promote Publishing Studies among prospective applicants, the launch and donation of books produced by the department to selected schools in the Ashanti Region, as well as active participation in the Ghana International Book Fair and Seminar.
Additionally, the department hosted a colloquium centered on the anniversary theme, fostering dialogue between academia and the industry.
Dr. Ry-Kottoh emphasized the significance of the Awards and Fundraising Dinner as the culmination of these celebrations and a platform to acknowledge contributors to the department’s growth.
“We are here to climax the celebrations with an awards ceremony to appreciate organizations, individuals, and groups who have contributed significantly to the department’s development,” she stated. “We are also seizing the opportunity to raise funds to support the infrastructure of the department for the next 40 years.”

The Pro Vice-Chancellor, Professor David Asamoah, underscored the importance of collective responsibility in sustaining the department’s legacy.
"As we mark this 40-year journey, we must also look ahead and ensure that the Department of Publishing Studies has the infrastructure and resources necessary to continue producing top-tier professionals in the industry," he noted.
Professor Asamoah appealed to alumni to contribute through financial support, mentorship programs, and infrastructural investment.
"Every donation, no matter the size, will play a role in advancing the mission of the department," he added. "Let us rally together to leave a lasting impact."
The evening featured an awards segment recognizing distinguished contributors to the department’s progress and included an appeal for donations to support upcoming infrastructural projects and student-focused initiatives. Several industry partners and individuals made donations and pledges toward renovating and furnishing lecture halls within the department.
