In accepting this invaluable donation on behalf of Kwame Nkrumah University of Science and Technology, Dr. Samuel Kotei Nikoi, the University Librarian, expressed the University's sincere gratitude. Dr. Nikoi underscored the University's commitment to enhancing the educational experience of its diverse student body.
He expressed concern about a prevailing challenge in Ghana, wherein institutions produce graduates with qualifications but lack the depth of education. He attributed this issue, in part, to a lack of reading culture among students, particularly the absence of intellectually stimulating materials. Consequently, he stressed the importance of encouraging students to explore storybooks as a means to inculcate a love for reading and learning, thereby enriching their vocabulary and comprehension skills.
Dr. Nikoi further revealed the University's intention to embark on community outreach initiatives within its sphere of influence. This programme aims to promote reading culture and stimulate interest in literature among children.
Dr. Nikoi in his closing remarks, assured that the donated books would be meticulously catalogued, integrated into the University's vast library resources, and would be promoted actively. He confirmed that "The Boy from Boadu" would be available to students not only for academic purposes but also for their pleasure and inspiration.
Accompanying Mr. Okyere during the presentation ceremony were Dr. Faustina Dufie Wireko-Manu from the Department of Food Science and Technology at KNUST, Mr. Bennet Papa Kwadwo Yeguo, a Marine Engineer from the USA, and Ms. Faustina Okyere of the Crops Research Institute.
