Management of the Kwame Nkrumah University of Science and Technology (KNUST), Kumasi has inaugurated sub-committees of the Quality Assurance and Planning Unit (QAPU) on 25th August 2020 at the Amonoo-Neizer Conference room.
The 17 Sub-committees were formed from all six colleges of the University, the Institute of Distance Learning (IDL), the offices of Procurement, Internal Audit, Registrar, Development, Finance, University Health Service, University Library, Security Service and the University Information Technology Services (UITS). Chairpersons of the sub-committees were sworn into office by the Vice-chancellor, Professor (Mrs.) Rita Akosua Dickson.
The Vice-Chancellor, in her remarks, was particular on the fact that, the Unit plays an important role in the management of the University as it forms the very nerve of the institution. She said QAPU must permeate every aspect of the University’s business. According to her, the Single Unit cannot take up the full task alone and thus stressed on the importance of the creation of the sub-committees. She, on behalf of Management, congratulated the various chairpersons on their appointments. She was certain that the chairpersons were competent enough to take up the given responsibilities.
According to the Head of QAPU, Dr. Jerry John Kponyo, his Unit is charged with fashioning out policies for the effective running of the University. He said that the decentralisation of the Unit is expected to ensure the easy trans flow of information, feedback and identify quality assurance issues at various departments for action.
Professor Eric Kwabena Forkuo, on behalf of the Chairpersons, thanked Management for the opportunity to serve the University. He pledged his teams will work hard to bring the University closer to its desired standard. He further solicited for the support of Management in all their endeavours as they start their respective committees' works.
