The Global Alumni Association of Kwame Nkrumah University of Science and Technology (KNUST) has donated an amount of fifty thousand Ghana Cedis (GH₵50,000.00) to two institutions in KNUST; Kumasi Centre for Collaborative Research into Tropical Medicine (KCCR) and the University Health Services (UHS). The donation forms part of their efforts to assisting the frontline health workers in KNUST community.
According to Dr. Kweku Agbesi, KNUST Global Alumni President, the Association has observed the hard work of all staff within the University particularly, the frontline health workers. He specifically applauded the great efforts of Scientist in KNUST who have worked tirelessly to produce various items; hand sanitizers, homemade ventilators and Rapid Diagnostic test to aid the fight against the spread of the novel coronavirus.
He stated that the Alumni has thus set up the ‘Alumni COVID-19 Fund’ to continuously support the University to effectively fight COVID-19 pandemic until the virus is defeated. He finally called on all ‘TEKNOKRATS’ to contribute their widow’s mite in support of this noble call.
The Chairman of University Council, Nana Effah-Apenteng, who received the cheque on behalf of the University, expressed his gratitude to the KNUST Alumni for their donation in these trying times. He called on other associations to emulate their kind gesture.
Ambassador Nana Effah Apenteng also, seized the opportunity to advise all students to remain safe and observe all protocols outlined by Ministry of Health and the KNUST COVID-19 Management Team until life returns to normalcy.
