The Deputy Australian High Commissioner to Ghana, Mr. Alen Askew has paid a visit to the Office of the Vice-Chancellor as part of a two-day familiarization visit to Kumasi. He was accompanied by Ms. Celeste Macaulay, the Political and Economic Research Officer, who is also the Coordinator for Australian Government Scholarships.
Welcoming the Australian delegation, Professor Kwasi Obiri-Danso, stated that the University and by extension the country and Australia have cooperated in various fields and have had a long standing relationship. Professor Obiri-Danso, welcomed the scholarships and assistance by the high Commission to help in the capacity building of staff and students and hoped for more collaborations between both institutions.
The visit according to the Deputy High Commissioner was to discuss issues on cooperation between the two institutions especially opportunities available in education. Mr. Askew also revealed the Australian government scholarships, especially the “Australian Awards in Africa”, among others which are available to high qualified candidates in both Ghana and the entire Africa which both staff and students can benefit from.
Ms. Celeste Macaulay said the Australian High Commission is also ready to organise a public information session for students and Faculty who would be interested in studying in Australia.
“The Australia Awards – Africa” is the cornerstone of the Australian Government's development assistance program for Africa. It provides access to postgraduate education, training and professional development opportunities for suitably qualified Africans from eligible countries. On their return to the workplace, beneficiaries are expected to contribute to the development of their home countries.
