Barclays Bank Ghana Ltd. has supported 20 students of the Kwame Nkrumah University of Science and Technology (KNUST) under the Tertiary Education Scholarship Scheme, a corporate social responsibility (CSR) of the Bank. Mr. Charles Addo, Retail Director, led a Team to present a cheque of One hundred and fifty thousand, four hundred and sixty cedis, fifty pesewas and brand-new Lenovo laptops to all the beneficiaries at a short ceremony on Campus
Mr. Addo stated that the presentation is in fulfillment of a promise made when his outfit called on the Vice-Chancellor last year. He continued that KNUST had been a great partner of Barclays over the years and it was therefore appropriate to support the university and by extension needy students.
He indicated that Barclays bank aims at having a positive impact on society while delivering stakeholder values. “It is about using our corporate assets and expertise to grow and develop our communities, develop skills to support employability and ensuring that more people have access to education, financial services and also give back to society and not only to make profit.
The total package of the Scheme comprises fully-funded tuition fees, accommodation, laptops, mentoring, coaching and job placements. Ms. Irene O. Asante, KNUST Branch Manager, said the beneficiaries have had their tuition fees paid earlier on.
Professor Kwasi Obiri-Danso, Vice-Chancellor, thanked Barclays for coming up with such an initiative and stated that the problem of students with financial challenges was very real and appealed for more assistance to such students.
