The Kwame Nkrumah University of Science and Technology (KNUST) Choir has performed "Israel in Egypt" (a night of Choral Explosion) at the National Theater Accra. It was an impressive show of Harmonic Voices and piano skills, under the theme: "To sing hymns, Psalms and Spiritual songs as an act to worship to God and Minister to souls of men".
Prof. Lawson a founder of the University Choir gave a Brief History of the Choir saying, "the choir is 46 years old and presently the numerical strength is 180; with an active membership status of 120. The Choir is still in its Growing Stages. The songs were taught and learnt using tonic sol-fa notation for the past seven (7) years. Their rendition falls into the categories of Hymns, Classical pieces, local and foreign anthems as well as Hi-life chorus. But the underlying factor was to render spiritual songs to conform to the theme".
Rev. John Badu Quashi gave a Brief Background on the theme in the form of exultation, he said Israel in Egypt was chosen because, the central theme was "Redemption" and this was found in the various verses in the book of Exodus Showing how the Almighty God rescued the Israelites from the bondage of King Pharaoh. He exalted the audience with this, "The hand of God will be with you according to His ordained promise in your life". In his exhortation, he encouraged the audience by letting them know that God loves them all and no matter how hard and difficult life may seem to be, God will remember them, he will definitely send a Moses through whom help will come, so they should keep praying, keep believing and keep hoping in God, for one day help will come, freedom and liberty will come their way and they will move into their promised land.
Prof. K.K. Adarkwa in his remarks, expressed appreciation to the students for their hard work, combining academic work with rehearsals. Presentations of Citations were made to the Vice- chancellor, Prof. K.K. Adarkwa, Rev. Paul Boafo and Prof. B.W.L. Lawson.
