The College of Art and Social Sciences, (CASS) of the Kwame Nkrumah University of Sciences and Technology (KNUST) has signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MOU) with the Ghana Trades Union Congress, TUC. The MOU would guarantee both parties the opportunity and the formal channel to develop and implement mutually beneficial programmes.
The Vice-Chancellor, Prof. K.K. Adarkwa in his opening statement said the major function of the University is to research and render services to the communities. The MOU therefore is to tap into the expertise of both parties for mutual benefit. Prof. Adarkwa was quick to add that the MOU would be reviewed periodically. He cautioned that both parties should endeavour to meet the requirements and abide by the terms outlined therein to ensure better quality control.
The Secretary General of TUC, Mr. Kofi Asamoah said, the Ghana Trades Union Congress is a workers’ organisation consisting of seventeen trade unions, representing the workers of Ghana. He noted that the TUC is determined to uphold the dignity of labour by maintaining a genuine independent organization of workers with a duty to serve the workers and nation faithfully.
Mr. Kofi Asamoah stated that the College of Art and Social Sciences (CASS) of KNUST is a University College for higher education and research in fields including Sociology, Economics, Political Science, Law, Rural Art and Human Resource Management, to ensure effective operation of the public institutions to propel the Socio-economic development of Ghana. He further stated that both parties have common overall objectives and embark on activities that complement each other; hence the signing of the MOU.
The Provost of the College of Art and Social Sciences, Prof. Dr. Dr. Daniel Bour said, “recognizing the need for academia and industry to collaborate, both parties have been deliberating on instituting training programmes and other capacity building initiatives for the past two years.”
Prof. K.K. Adarkwa signed on behalf of KNUST whilst Mr. Kofi Asamoah also signed on behalf of TUC. The Registrar of the University, Mr. Kobby Yebo-Okrah and Mr. Alex K. Bonney signed as witnesses.
