The Chief Executive Officer of Vodafone Ghana, David Venn, has visited the Kwame Nkrumah University of Science and Technology to acquaint himself with the telecommunication network situation in the community. As part of the company’s corporate social responsibilities, a donation of ten desktop computers and accessories were made to the College of Agriculture and Natural Resources to help facilitate their research activities.
Mr. Venn, after the presentation of the computers, declared the intention of his outfit to establish an Internet Café on KNUST campus. He noted that the bandwidth for the proposed café was 45 megabytes. He said “we want to place KNUST as one of the universities in the world equipped with modern ICT facilities.” He added that, the equipment would benefit students and faculty in their learning and research activities. He assured the house that the facility would be ready for use by next academic year. He also disclosed that plans were underway to extend it to other university campuses in the country.
The Pro Vice-Chancellor Prof. W. O. Ellis welcomed the good news and expressed the University’s acknowledgement to Vodafone for their continuous support to the University. He further said that, the University needed to put in more technology in the training of the prospective leaders needed in all spheres of the Country’s economy. Therefore, the facility would give the University the ability and opportunity to be doing new things, he added.
In a related development, Amal Bank limited also donated two desktop computers to the faculty of Agriculture. The representative of Alma Bank, Mr. Inkoom stated that, the bank has had a long lasting relationship with the University and they were doing that to show their acknowledgement of how important the University was in the acceleration of the developmental agenda of the nation.
The Pro Vice-Chancellor, assured them that, the facilities would be put in right use to sustain its intended purpose.
