The Country Director of the British Council, Moses Anibaba, has paid a courtesy call on the Vice-Chancellor, Prof. K. K. Adarkwa. The visit was aimed at strengthening academic partnership between the British Council and KNUST.
In an address, Mr. Anibaba said his outfit is glad to be in partnership with KNUST in areas such as Nursing, Petroleum Engineering and Electrical Engineering among others. He lauded the Vice-Chancellor and his lieutenants for ensuring sustenance of the partnership.
Mr. Anibaba disclosed that a Pan African Conference on partnership is scheduled to take place in January 2011, to give impetus to such collaborative efforts.
On his part, the Vice-Chancellor of KNUST, Professor K. K. Adarkwa commended the British Council for partnering KNUST in providing requisite capacity building aid to its staff and lecturers.
The Vice-chancellor suggested the institution of sandwich programmes for some lecturers to widen their scope of knowledge. Prof. Adarkwa later called for the downward revision of fees paid by students who travel to the UK for further studies.
Speaking on behalf of the Chemistry Department, a lecturer, Dr. J. A. M. Awudza, said the Department is developing capacity of its teaching staff on a new plastic waste management technology known as Polymer Science.
According to him, the polymer will help ease plastic waste problem in Ghana.
When the head of the Nursing Department of the Faculty of Allied Health Sciences , Victoria Bubunyo Bam, took her turn, she disclosed that a special programme in Paediatric Nursing will soon be introduced. She stated that the duration for the programme will be 2 years.
