The University of Michigan Medical School, has donated medical equipment and accessories valued at a hundred and fifty thousand dollars to the College of Health Sciences, KNUST. The Director of Clinical Simulation Centre, Department of Medical Education of the University of Michigan, Prof.Pamela B. Andreata donated the equipment on behalf of her university.
Prof. Andreata, who is an expert in developing simulators for emergency health cases, stated that the University of Michigan Medical School is offering assistance to the Komfo Anokye Teaching Hospital and the College of Health Sciences in the development of Simulators. She stated further that in two months time, an additional consignment of fifty thousand dollars would be added to the current donation.
The Provost of the College of Health Sciences, Prof.Peter Donkor, in his welcome address, said, KNUST cherishes the long-standing relationship with the University of Michigan, notably in the training of Ghanaian obstetrics and gynaecologists. Prof. Donkor said KNUST and other Ghanaian universities have benefited immensely from its programmes.
The Dean of the School of Medical Sciences, Prof.Kwabena Danso, noted that the donation was timely, especially in this era when there are new discoveries and developments in medical practice, which modern medical practioners must learn. Prof. Danso expressed the college’s heartfelt appreciation to the delegation from the University of Michigan Medical School.
Present at the ceremony was John Perosky, Masters in Engineering Student from the University of Michigan Medical School and other senior members of the college.
