As part of Zain’s corporate social responsibility activities and commitment to its valued customers, it has engaged Africa’s major Universities a quiz programme on General Knowledge covering a wide range of areas such as Geography, History, Science, African Culture, Music, Literature, among others. The programme aimed at developing the talents of the youth and equipping them to learn.
Distinct scholars from the Premier University of Science and Technology in Ghana, KNUST, was represented at the National Level. The team with their awesome and splendid performance emerged the winners with excellent walk-over on competitors like Valley View University, University of Ghana, University for Development Studies, among others. They booked their place at the 2010 international Championship in Kampala, Uganda.
The team comprising of Jerome Abaka-Cann, Gilbert Owusu-Gyamfi, Nana Kwame Ogyire-Henaku together with Dr. Wilhemina J. Donkoh, (coach) and Dr. Peggy Oti Boateng, paid a courtesy call to the Vice Chancellor.
It is expected that they bring home the Season 4 Zain Africa Challenge Scholar's Trophy in a similar manner after Nigeria's University of Ibadan did in Season 3 and Kenya's Egerton University in Seasons 1 and 2. This would be KNUST's second appearance after making its debut in the last year's edition. It is hoped the entire University community, Alumni and the entire nation would support the nation's premier Science and Technology University to a Continental Gold”, said Dr. W. J. Donkoh.
Prof. K. K. Adarkwa demonstrating his excitement for their achievement, assured them that, the University would do its best to support them. He said, there are about 24,000 students in the school and all of them cannot represent the school so if they have volunteered, the entire University community would support them. He charged them to bring the cup to the University.
