The Board of Trustees of the Poku Transport Endowment Fund has presented this year’s edition of the Scholarship awards instituted some years back to deserving brilliant students. This award was given to five students from five different faculties in the University. They were Baffour-Awuah Aaron of the department of electrical engineering, Kwadwo Baah, Maxwell of mechanical engineering, Gadogbe, Mark Kwabena of siviculture and forest management,Inusah, Abdul-Jalil and Opoku Clement of the department of pharmacy.
The Chairman of Poku Transport Endowment Fund, Prof. F.O. Kwami who is also a past Vice-Chancellor of KNUST presented the awards to the beneficiaries. He said, the value of this year’s award is 500 Ghana cedis and a certificate of merit.
Prof. Kwami further stated that to receive a Poku Transport Award, a student should be above average and very high academic standard. He explained that the award was to motivate the beneficiaries to work harder.
The Vice –Chancellor, Prof. K. K. Adarkwa said the fund has helped a lot of students who are brilliant in their education. He further advised the students not to be complacent in their studies, but to learn more so as to motivate their colleagues.
The Poku Transport Endowment Fund was established by the benevolent philanthropist and visionary, Mr. Francis Poku of blessed memory, at a time when funding of education by government was very low.
Present were the wife and children of the late Mr. Francis Poku, members of the Board of Trustees, the Pro vice-Chancellor, Deans, Registrars, lecturers and other senior members of staff.
