In a bid to commemorate the late Professor E. Bamfo-Kwakye, a memorial award ceremony has been held at the College of Engineering. As part of the occasion, six (6) best third year students from the departments of Electrical Engineering, Telecom Engineering and Computer Engineering were presented with a cash amount of GH¢ 1,500 for outstanding academic performance.
The late Professor E. Bamfo-Kwakye was a former Vice-Chancellor of KNUST between 1974 and 1983. Meanwhile, the Professor Bamfo-Kwakye Memorial Award was instituted by Mrs. Bamfo-Kwakye (wife of the latter) in remembrance of her husband who served the University Community during his lifetime.

On behalf of Mrs. Bamfo-Kwakye, the best six students in three (3) departments from the College of Engineering were presented with cash awards by Mrs. Ulzen Appiah (sister of Mrs. Bamfo-Kwakye), a Lecturer at the Department of Industrial Art and Co-ordinator of the "Prof. E. Bamfo-Kwakye Memorial Award".
The Head of Department of Electrical Engineering, Mr. E.K. Anto, gave a brief history of the life of the late Professor Bamfo-Kwakye. He was however grateful to Mrs. Bamfo-Kwakye for the kind gesture aimed at supporting students financially and encouraging academic excellence in the College.
One of the awardees, Miss Perpetual Adobea Dankyi, from the Department of Computer Engineering, expressed appreciation on behalf of her colleagues (the awardees) to Mrs. Bamfo-Kwakye for the cash award, and gave the assurance that they would live up to expectation as far as academic excellence was concerned.

The other awardees were: Isaac Koranteng, Electrical Engineering; Daah Korkor Agyente, Electrical Engineering; George Sarfo Appiah, Telecom Engineering; Isaac Alex Sackey, Telecom Engineering, and Michael Wilson, Computer Engineering.
Among some senior members who graced the occasion were: Nana Dr. K. Diawuo, Head of Department of Computer Engineering; Mr. J.J. Kponyo, Lectuer at the Department of Electrical Engineering; Mr. Duah Boakye, a Chief Administrative Assistant; and Mr. E.A. Frimpong, Lecturer at the Department of Electrical Engineering.
