Fidelity Bank, a renowned financial institution, as part of its corporate social responsibility activities has donated ten (10) computers to the Institute of Distance Learning (IDL) of KNUST. The donation was aimed at strengthening the existing relationship between both institutions, and to enhance quality tuition at the IDL in particular.
In a formal presentation, Ms Sharon Asante, the branch Manager of Ahodwo in Kumasi, handed the computers and other accessories to the Registrar, Mr. Kobby Yebo-Okrah, who received the items on behalf of the University. In all, seven (7) HP Compaq Destops; three (3) Toshiba Laptops; and seven (7) Uninterrupted Power Supply (UPS) devices, estimated at GH¢ 13, 000.
Ms. Sharon Asante stated that the Bank would in a variety of ways support the KNUST as part of its contribution towards national development, particularly the training of students.
The Registrar expressed gratitude to the Executive Management of the Bank for their timely response and kind gesture. He indicated the University's preparedness to collaborate with industry to promote research activities and student industrial attachment. He, therefore, was confident that the IDL would become more technology-oriented to extend its programmes to all the ten Regions of the country through ICT.
Mr. Yebo-Okrah stated that the University was proud to collaborate with Fidelity Bank, and hoped that the 60th Anniversary of KNUST which is slated for November, 2011, would provide other platforms for further collaborations.
On his part, the Dean of IDL, Professor Isaac Dontwi, was full of praise to the Bank for the timely response. He assured them that computers would be put to effective use in order to enhance the provision of quality education throughout the country. He hoped for deeper collaboration with Fidelity Bank.
