University Hall, popularly known as "Katanga", has launched its 48th Annual Hall Week Festival in a colourful ceremony at the Royal Parade Ground. The theme for the occasion was "Responding to the Contemporary Demands of Society; Katanga's Clarion Call".
The Vice-Chancellor, Professor W.O. Ellis, in a keynote address, described the theme as insightful considering that society and the world at large keep changing. "The advent of technological trend has placed a greater responsibility on developing countries including Ghana", he added. He stressed that the University had a social duty of impacting the surrounding communities, particularly in the area of health and formal education.

Professor Ellis congratulated the Junior Common Room Committee (JCRC) and the administrators of the Hall for their effort in providing a computer lab at Kotei Junior High School, a suburb of Kumasi. He praised the contingents of the Hall Cadet for their splendid performance during the parade exercise.
In a statement, the Review Officer from the 4th Battalion Infantry, Lieutenant Daniel Boampong an alumnus of KNUST, underscored the importance of instilling creativity in the youth (students) to adequately prepare them for the ever-changing needs of society. He indicated that it was imperative for societal problems to be perceived and addressed collectively for sustainable development.
Lt. Boampong called on the students to make a positive contribution to society so as to exceed the expectations of the general public. He also inspected the two continents from the University Hall Army Cadet, and praised the cadet officers for their turn-out.
The Hall Master, Dr. Joseph Sarkodie Addo, expressed his gratitude to the members of the Senior Common Room (SCR) of University Hall for their unflinching support towards the progress of the Hall.

The Junior Common Room (JCR) President of the Hall, Ekpor Anyimah-Ackaah, on his part, intimated that the "Andam Reading Room" in the Hall has been refurbished for use. He further outlined other notable achievements of the Executives (JCRC) of the Hall. "Leadership is the ability to transform vision into reality", he noted.
He further expressed his gratitude to the Vice-Chancellor, the Dean of Students, and the Hall authorities for their immense contribution and support to the JCRC, and the Hall at large.
In separate developments, the Vice-Chancellor led the dignitaries to commission some completed and on-going projects in the Hall, including the "Andam Reading Room", a refurbished project named after the late Professor K.A. Andam, a former Vice-Chancellor of KNUST.
