The Minister of Trade and Industry, Mrs. Hannah Tetteh has paid a courtesy call on the Vice-Chancellor, Prof. W.O. Ellis to seek avenues where the Trade and Industry Ministry could collaborate with the University in producing skillful resources for the development of the Ministry and the country at large.
Mrs. Tetteh said that the Ministry had sourced funds to assist the Engineering Department to train people for the oil and gas industry. She also mentioned that the Ministry had partnered with the United Nations Industrial Development Organisation (UNIDO) on ways to improve trade and energy in Ghana. She stated that President John Evans Atta Mills' progressive measures with other countries to develop the Trade and Industry Ministry. She emphasised the Ministry had started projects in the country where the skilled graduates produced by KNUST would be duly utilized to improve local content as well as the use of local resources in terms of raw materials.
The Provost of the College of Engineering, Prof. Samuel Innocent Kofi Ampadu agreed with the Minister of Trade and Industry on the steps taken by the Ministry to collaborate with KNUST. He suggested the need for people with different expertise in different fields of study to get involved in politics since the development of the nation depended on people with technological competence.
The Vice-Chancellor commended the Minister and said that the University welcomed such initiatives where opportunities could spring up. He laid out the progress of education in the University to the Minister and encouraged Universities to be proactive in their contributions to Ghana's development, emphasing that it was necessary to team up with the government to put the case for Education across to the politicians.
