The International Institute for Water and Environmental Engineering (2iE), based in Burkina Faso has signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MOU) with KNUST to strengthen collaboration and partnership in the conduct of research into Renewable Energy and Technology.
Professor Abeiku Brew-Hammond, acting Director for The Energy Center, KNUST, in an opening statement highlighted the main aims of 2iE, within the areas of Water, Environment, Energy and Engineering. He noted that, through collaborative efforts by the two institutions and with the support of Volta River Authority (VRA), research and installation of solar plants would soon be implemented in the Upper West region of Ghana.
The leader of the delegation, Professor Amadou H. MAIGA, Director of 2iE, addressing the delegates, touched on the need for strengthening ties between Francophone and Anglophone institutions to foster growth and development among sister states. He affirmed that the objectives of the collaboration would be achieved largely through joint research programmes in doctoral studies.
The Pro Vice-Chancellor, Professor Peter Donkor, representing the Vice-Chancellor, expressed his support for the MOU and hinted that, the University is equally keen on building a consortium of experts for further development in the areas of Science and Technology, particularly in sub-Saharan Africa.
2iE is a bilingual education and research institution in the fields of Water, Environment, Energy and Engineering and places great emphasis on partnerships with colleges and sister institutions from all over the world. Through these partnerships, 2iE combines and transfers skills and technological innovation from the developed North to the developing South, with research focusing on the “post-oil”, solar energy, bio-fuels, eco-materials, water management and the environment.
Among the dignitaries present were: Mr. Kobby Yebo-Okrah, Registrar; Professor Edward Badu, the Provost of the College of Architecture and Planning; Professor Kwaku Obiri Danso, Dean of International Programmes Office, and Mr. Kingsley Owusu Taibi, the University Relations Officer.
