The Vice-Chancellor, Professor William Otoo Ellis has honoured five campus security guards and two patriotic citizens of the University in an eventful ceremony. The ceremony was organised to award the security men and citizens for their bravery in the arrest of a notorious armed robber.
The Vice-Chancellor, in a speech, congratulated the security staff for their dedication to duty over the years despite challenges they encounter. He recounted the assistance the University has given the security service over the years.
Prof. Ellis reiterated the robbery incident on the 9th of November, 2010, where two victims were attacked and five security guards in trying to arrest the armed robber got injured in the process. He stated that in respect of their courage to overcome such notoriety in the society, they needed to be awarded.
"Henceforth, promotion will not be based only on one's long service, but one would also be promoted based on one's outstanding performance", he underlined. He showed appreciation to the state securities for offering assistance to the University security in maintaining calm on the University campus.
The Vice-Chancellor advised the rest of the security staff and University community to be motivated by the example of their colleagues and selflessly work to uphold the good name of the University.
The awardees were Napoleon Quayson, Atta Fotua Jnr., Eric Kwarteng, Stephen Mbatem, Nelson Adumpeligo, Prof. R. C. Abaidoo (Provost - College of Agriculture and Natural Resources) and Mr. James M. Dogbatse (National Service Person).
The Registrar, the Pro Vice-Chancellor, Provosts, Police Commanders, Cadet Corps were also present.
