A delegation from the West African Society of Pharmacology (WASP) has visited KNUST to reaffirm the society's correlation with the Department of Pharmacology and to seek for the University's support in the organisation in their upcoming Pharmacology conference in Kumasi.
Dr. Helen Ochuko Kwanashie, a Professor of Pharmacology at Ahmadu Bello University (ABU) in Kaduna State, Nigeria and also President of WASP, stressed on the need for the assistance of other African countries beside Ghana and Nigeria in the growth of the society.
She spoke briefly on the history of the society and its objectives. She revealed that, the Association was in its 40th year since its inception and Ghana was needed as a catalyst in the further development of WASP.
She also stated the visit to KNUST is to collaborate with the Department of Pharmacology in the organisation and the generation of interest in the society's upcoming conference.
The Pro Vice-Chancellor, Professor Peter Donkor welcomed the delegation. He told the visitors about the level of development in the Department of Pharmacology in the University. He continued that, the department had a strong track record in research and publications and has been one of the topmost departments in the University.
He reiterated that the society's initiative to collaborate with KNUST was a good one and pledged the unflinching support for WASP by the University.
Dr. Helen Ochuko Kwanashie was accompanied by Dr. Ching Fidelis Poh, a lecturer and researcher in the Department of Pharmacology, Niger Delta University; lecturers from the Department of Pharmacology, KNUST were also present.
