As part of the 45th Congregation calendar, deserving graduands of the Faculty of Art and, KNUST School of Business (KSB) both in the College of Art and Social Sciences were awarded Bachelor degrees at the Great Hall.
Of the total 864 graduands, 93 got First Class, 617 had Second Class (Upper Division) with 144 in the Second Class (Lower Division), and the remaining 10 obtained Pass.
In a speech, the Vice-Chancellor, Professor W.O. Ellis, said that the KNUST has over the years witnessed tremendous transformation in fulfilling its core values of teaching, research, and providing services to the community in the areas of science and technology.
He further noted that "the KSB has become the centre of attraction for prospective professionals to obtain quality teaching in business and administration-related degrees. He expressed satisfaction about the progress of collaboration between the Millennium Challenge Account (MCA) and the KSB to launch a Bachelor of Science programme in Procurement Management, and other short courses for professionals in the industry. He congratulated faculty members of the KSB on their remarkable achievement.
Professor Ellis described the existing memorandum of understanding (MOU) between the Department of Communication Design (KNUST) and the Faculty of Informatics & Design of Cape Peninsula University of Technology in Cape Town (CPUT) of the Republic of South Africa as beneficial since it would enhance the international exposure of students and faculty members. He was very pleased that a delegation from the Department, comprising 13 students and 3 faculty members who undertook an educational and industrial trip to CPUT in May 2011
He gave the assurance that the first phase of the College of Art and Social Sciences Complex building currently under construction would be completed by end of June 2011. He also disclosed that a GETFund sponsorship of GH¢1 million has been released to expedite the completion of the project.
The graduands were challenged by the Vice-Chancellor to strive in their endeavours to help solve problems facing industries, and provide the requisite solutions to the nation's industrial challenges.
