The Vice-Chancellor, Professor William O. Ellis, has paid a working visit to the headquarters of HFC Bank Limited, Ghana Commercial Bank (GCB) and Barclays Bank to strengthen the relationship that exist between the University and the Banks. The courtesy call was in a bid to jointly undertake community impact programmes, and to develop small and medium enterprises (SMEs) with the strategic banking partners of the University.
Professor Ellis expressed appreciation to the Banks for their unflinching support to KNUST, particularly during his investiture ceremony as Vice-Chancellor. He disclosed that, the KNUST has incorporated an event dubbed: "Bankers' Week" in its academic calendar, an initiative which would create the requisite platform for banks to launch their products and services, and educate students.
The Managing Director of HFC Bank Limited, Mr. Asare Akuffo, cherished that, the KNUST has for the past four years maintained a good relationship with HFC Bank. He therefore, declared the Bank's preparedness in supporting KNUST in particular, and public universities in Ghana in general.
Mr. Asare Akuffo lauded KNUST for establishing a Business Development Centre, and underscored its readiness to support the Centre in realizing its goals. "Universities define countries through their research and products in the society", he noted.
The Managing Director of Barclays Bank Ghana Limited, Mr. Benjamin T. Debrah, pledged the Bank's readiness in undertaking corporate social responsibility activities in partnership with KNUST and to collaboratively carry out business projects which would benefit both institutions and the nation at large.
Mr. Benjamin T. Debrah congratulated Professor Ellis on his appointment as Vice-Chancellor, and disclosed Barclays Bank's willingness to jointly embark on business opportunities and projects proposed by KNUST.
In a similar development, the Vice-Chancellor called on the Headquarters of Ghana Commercial Bank in Accra and expressed gratitude to the Bank for its long term support to KNUST. The Vice-Chancellor was accompanied by: Mr. Ralph Nyaadu-Addo, the KNUST Business Development Officer; Mr. M.K Okrah, a Senior Assistant Registrar at the Vice-Chancellor's Office; and Mr. Kofi Adu, an Assistant Registrar at the Accra Office, KNUST.
