A representative from Zain Telecommunications, Maame Dufie Cudjoe, has paid a courtesy call on the Vice - Chancellor, Prof. Kwesi Kwafo Adarkwa to present awards to the Zain Africa Challenge contestants and the University. Maame Dufie briefed the V. C. on the remarkable performance of the students who represented the University in the recent competition. She said the competition has improved the network of the students and the University. She presented cash prizes to the participants from Kwame Nkrumah University of Science and Technology. The four (4) participants received a cheque of $500 each.
Miss Cudjoe again presented to the University six (6) personal computers as institutional grant for the contestants' participation in the competition. Also, she presented a replica of the Zain Africa Challenge trophy to the University.
Zain Africa Challenge is the first ever televised academic competition among students in African universities. Participants are challenged to read widely on different subject areas aside their programmes of study. The Zain Africa Challenge programme is an extension of Zain's corporate commitment to its customers. Zain Africa Challenge is a competition organized and funded by Zain Telecommunications.
The Vice - Chancellor thanked Zain Telecommunications for its contribution to the University. Furthermore, he showed appreciation to the coaches of the participants for assisting in building the intellectual abilities of the students. He emphasized that, the Zain Africa Challenge competition should be maintained as it broadens students' scope of study and enhances a fruitful relationship among tertiary institutions in Africa.
The contestants were Jerome Abaka - Cann (Electrical engineering), Nana Kwame Ogyire Heneku (Optometry), Gilbert Owusu (Electrical engineering) and Richard Opoku (Mechanical engineering).
