The Vice-Chancellor, Professor William O. Ellis, has paid a courtesy call on some selected media houses in Accra including the Ghana Broadcasting Corporation (GBC), TV 3, Graphic Communications Group Limited, New Times Corporation and the Global Media Alliance. The official visit was made to deepen collaboration between the KNUST and its strategic media partners.
In an interaction, Professor Ellis stressed the relevance of the media in enhancing the image of KNUST and its sister universities in Ghana. He appealed to the media to remain circumspect in its reportage, adding that, publishing negative content can jeopardize the hard won reputation of the University.
Professor Ellis recommended a strategic collaboration between the KNUST and its media partners in order to chalk significant successes geared towards national development in the delivery of community based projects. "KNUST need the assistance of the media to build a noble institution" he noted. Professor Ellis made a passionate appeal to the media to give publicity and help strengthen the KNUST Alumni Association.
In a response, the Executive Chairman of Global Media Alliance (GMA), Mr. Edward Boateng an alumnus of KNUST, pledged his commitment to partner KNUST. He assured that the GMA would continue to absorb graduates from the University, and would play a pivotal role to support the KNUST Alumni Association.
The Acting Managing Director of Graphic Communications Group, Mr. K.A. Kersi, on his part, described KNUST as one of the premier universities in Ghana. He, therefore, gave the assurance that worthy news emanating from KNUST Campus would be incorporated in subsequent publications of the organization.
The Management of Ghana Broadcasting Corporation (GBC), expressed satisfaction as a strategic partner of the KNUST, and called for a deeper collaboration with the University to undertake staff development and training programmes.
The other members of the delegation who joined the Vice-Chancellor were: Mr. Ralph Nyaadu-Addo, the Officer in-charge of KNUST Business Development Centre; Mr. M.K. Okrah, a Senior Assistant Registrar at the Vice-Chancellor's Office; and Mr. Kofi Adu, Assistant Registrar, Accra Office, KNUST.
