TOBINCO Group of Companies (TGC) has donated fifty brand new HP laptop computers worth one hundred and forty-two thousand, five hundred Cedis to the Kwame Nkrumah University of Science and Technology (KNUST).
According to the Registrar of Entrance University College, Samuel Apeawin, the donation is in response to an appeal by the Vice-Chancellor, Professor (Mrs.) Rita Akosua Dickson to their Chief Executive Officer, Samuel Amo Tobbin, to support KNUST. The donation is therefore, in line with the Vice-Chancellor’s vision to, ‘Support One Needy Student with One Laptop’ (SONSOL) Project.
Leader of the TGC delegation, Dr. Ebenezer Asamoah Nyarkoh presented the laptop computers on behalf of the Group. He mentioned that the donation is the initial support from the CEO of the company and that more will follow in due course. Dr. Asamoah pledged the Groups preparedness to offer internship opportunities to students from KNUST and other joint collaborative efforts in supporting the University.
Receiving the laptops, Professor Dickson said that the training of the requisite manpower for Africa’s development is a collective responsibility between the university, industry and all stakeholders, to produce quality graduates for the job market. She thanked TOBINCO Group of companies for the kind gesture. She said due to the Coronavirus pandemic, management had to switch to E- teaching and learning. However, it was realised that not all students were able to access the online teaching and learning due to lack of laptops. Hence, the personal appeal to her friend, Mr. Samuel Amo Tobbin, who has responded promptly. She said the donation would go a long way to support these students in need.
