Telecel Foundation has donated 100 laptops to the Kwame Nkrumah University of Science and Technology (KNUST), Kumasi in support of the university’s “Support One Needy Student with One Laptop” (SONSOL) initiative.
The donation forms part of the Foundation’s commitment to bridging the digital divide and enhancing access to technology for financially disadvantaged students.

Launched in 2020 by the Vice-Chancellor, Professor (Mrs.) Rita Akosua Dickson, the SONSOL Project aims to empower needy but brilliant students with essential digital learning tools to facilitate their academic work.

The Chief Executive Officer of Telecel Ghana, Ing. Patricia Obo-Nai emphasized the Foundation’s dedication to making meaningful and lasting contributions to education.
“Telecel listened, and we responded. We believe our partnership with KNUST is not a one-time engagement but a continuous relationship. This donation is a continuation of the good works we started with the university,” she said.
According to her, the gesture aligns with one of the key pillars of the Telecel Foundation, impacting lives through technology.
“Last year, we were here with our board chair and made a promise. Today, it is our pleasure to fulfil that promise. We are confident that these laptops will go a long way to support students in their academic journey,” she added.
In response, the Vice-Chancellor, Prof. Rita Akosua Dickson expressed deep appreciation to the Telecel Foundation for its generosity and consistent support.
“You have always responded to the needs of the students of this great institution. The impact of this gesture on the lives of our students is significant. We knocked on your door, and you listened,” she said.
She further noted that empowering students with digital tools aligns perfectly with the Foundation’s own mission.
“This effort bridges the digital divide and resonates with your slogan, connecting energies. We are connecting the aspirations and personal visions of our students, and this will have a cascading effect across the entire student body. The impact is immeasurable,” she added.
Prof. Dickson was confident the donation would help unearth the potential of brilliant students and support the training of transformative leaders for Ghana, the sub-region, the continent, and the world.
“We look forward to future collaborations that will serve humanity,” she added.
The Vice-President of the Students' Representative Council (SRC), Mr. Samuel Afful, also lauded the relevance of the SONSOL Project and extended gratitude to the Telecel Foundation for its continuous support, describing it as a life-changing intervention for many students.
