The TCC International Centre for Innovation and Manufacturing Engineering Technologies (TCC-CIMET) has hosted an international quality management training programme for executives at the Kwame Nkrumah University of Science and Technology (KNUST).
The three-day programme brought together professionals from a range of industries to deepen their understanding of quality management principles and their application within Ghana’s industrial context.
The event was jointly organised by TCC-CIMET, the Ghana Institution of Engineers and German partners, with a focus on building technical capacity, fostering cross-sector dialogue and developing locally grounded quality solutions.
Lead facilitator and quality management expert, Mrs. Matilda Freda Marful, said the training focused on frugal quality management concepts, adapting global frameworks to reflect Ghanaian and African industrial realities.
She said hands-on exercises equipped participants with practical tools for process optimisation.
“We adapted core QMS themes to contextualise the frameworks for participants, so they reflect what they will encounter in their organisations and typical Ghanaian workplaces,” she said.
“Participants also identified industry-specific challenges and co-developed tailored solutions through collaborative activities, including value stream mapping, process flow mapping, failure mode and effects analysis (FMEA), and the turtle diagram.”
The training combined presentations with hands-on learning and group discussions.
Participants represented sectors including public utilities, healthcare, automotive, finance, mining, academia, nuclear safety management, municipal administration, construction and engineering consultancy.
Participants commended the workshop’s practical approach, expert facilitation and relevance to their work, saying it provided tools and insights applicable to their organisations.
The training underscores TCC-CIMET’s role in promoting quality management systems (QMS) and standardisation, and its contribution to developing resilient, high-performing professionals across Ghana and the wider African continent.
