The Vice Chancellor, Prof. K.K. Adarkwa has stated that the world is gradually gravitating towards economic doldrums and Africa is the worst affected. He said although there is much talk about human rights abuse, social injustice, labour unrest and disputes, high inflation and high interest rates, most of the solutions lie in the hands of the graduands.
Prof. Adarkwa has therefore challenged the graduands to prepare to overcome obstacles and challenges that may confront them in the world. He threw this challenge at the Congregation for graduands from the Faculty of Law and the School of Business under the College of Art and Social Sciences, KNUST.
Prof. Adarkwa noted that the training they have acquired at KNUST is a holistic one that has prepared them to face the challenges of the contemporary world. He cautioned the graduands against being limited to what they have been taught only saying, “always think outside the box and that will make you outstand life”.
Again he advised them to eschew mediocrity, be honest and deligent at their work places and project themselves above others so as to become good ambassadors of KNUST and to excel in any field of endeavour that they choose. He further advised the graduates to pursue high academic laurels.
The Motivational Speaker for the Occasion, Mrs. Josephine Adams from Sinapi Aba Trust said although they have been equipped with the requisite skills to succeed through their four-year training, their success would depend on themselves and not their degrees.
She advised them to be faithful, timely, reliable, courteous, adopt the right attitude to life and to wear a smile at all times in order to succeed. She challenged the graduands not to work for money only but to work with love and passion wherever they find themselves.
Mrs. Adams said “Find the work you love to do, then the compensation would follow”. She pleaded with the University to organise educational trips for the students to institutions and offices in the developed countries in order to boost the confidence of students.
This year, the Faculty of Law and the School of Business presented 361 students for graduation. The number comprises 37 with First Class degrees, 205 with Second Class degrees (Upper Division), 114 with Second Class Degrees (Lower Division) and the remaining 5 with Pass degrees.
