Christopher Hindolo Tiah, a third-year BSc Electrical Engineering student from Sierra Leone, has emerged victorious in the inaugural painting competition held during the International Students’ Hangout.
The event, organized by the International Programmes Office (IPO) at Kwame Nkrumah University of Science and Technology (KNUST), took place at the Singh Guest House under the theme, “What Makes Your Country Stand Out.”
The competition featured participants from nine countries, including Ghana, Nigeria, Cameroon, Burundi, Burkina Faso, Germany, Kenya, and the Democratic Republic of Congo. Each group was tasked with creating a painting that captured the unique essence of their homeland.
The event aimed to foster cultural exchange, promote artistic expression, and strengthen bonds among international students through a creative 'Paint & Sip' activity.
The Dean of the International Programmes Office, Professor Daniel Duah, emphasized the importance of creating a home away from home for international students.
“It’s vital for students to take breaks from their studies, relax, and build connections with one another,” he said.
Prof. Duah also urged students to remain focused on their academic pursuits, reminding them of the upcoming mid-semester examinations and encouraging them to prioritize their studies.
The event also featured a Cultural Showcase, where participants presented and discussed the distinctive aspects of their countries.
Prof. Duah hinted at future programs, including “Around the World in a Day” at the Basic School and the much-anticipated “Akwaaba Night.”
Pascal Muzungu, President of the International Students Association (ISA), praised the collaboration between ISA and IPO, expressing optimism for more engaging and exciting programs in the future.
