The Provident Fund Association has held this year's general meeting at the Kwame Nkrumah University of Science and Technology (KNUST). The Provident Fund represents a future investment for members of the Association.
The Chairman of GUSSS Board, Professor Kwame Sarpong, who chaired the meeting, reminded members of the agenda discussed per the last annual meeting in 2009. He said this year's meeting was to brief members on the progressive improvement of the fund thus, analyzing the state of affairs of the Association. He told members that, the Association's constitution has been reviewed and changes have been made.
He also told members to take a critical note of the reviewed constitution as it is the Association's guide in making decisions. In relation to the constitution, he disclosed to members the new election process whereby members vote to elect their executives. Previously, members could nominate themselves to be chosen for the executive positions, he noted.
A lecturer from the Department of Crop and Soil Science, Mr. Andrews Osei, suggested one way to make the new electoral process more effective. He said, publicity of elections should be heightened to enable more members to vote.
In the annual report of the Association, the Chairman, Prof. Kwame Sarpong welcomed all members present and wished them well. He reported that, since the Association's last meeting, the Association's statistics of membership is as follows: 80 new members, 19 members have withdrawn from the fund, 3 members have died and currently the Association's membership stands at 1,142.
He told members that, since the Association's last general meeting, the management board had been working tirelessly to find new ways of improving the financial status of the Association. He informed members that, 131,000 Ghana cedis was the amount paid to members who went on retirement and those who withdrew from the fund the previous year. He congratulated the management committee for working earnestly with him, especially Mr. Kingsley Adu the Manager of the Association's fund for his expedient work for the Association.
The University's Internal Auditor who is also the internal auditor of the Association, Mr. Bart Plange briefed members on the Association's financial statement. He reviewed the accounts of the association and members asked questions pertaining to that. He acknowledged the trust that the Association had in its Audit Committee.
The Manager of the Provident Association's Fund, Mr. Kingsley Adu informed members of the increment in loans collection from the fund in 2009.
In the elections held earlier to elect new senior and junior members to join the management board for the next two years. 429 members voted and 9 of the votes cast were declared invalid. Mr. R.K. Osei Kwaku and Mr. Kwadwo Neizer both senior staff were elected, whilst Mr. Richard Arhin was elected, to represent the junior staff.
Each member received a copy of the Association's constitution and a copy of the accounts breakdown.
Mr. Mensah Bonsu, Mr. Fred Essien and other executives were present.
